Coffee Shop with JDog
My Excellent Friend Jacquelyn Sauriol, she is a wise and hugely generous person, and since she does not (as of yet) have a page, but is an active member of the Stacker Community, I wanted to share this, from her. Take it away, JS!

a lesson from Bob I worked at trade show fabricators for a while. There were salespeople. it was Oregon. There were trade shows, like Shot Show, for guns, Supershow, for shoes and athlete clothes, mostly... And so companies that made the 'booths' that would be erected on a spot of space (say 'a 50'x50' would be rented), and the company, depending on it's available money, would commission us to make the 'cool looking booth'. Anyway, back to Bob. He, lets see, he drove in daily from Salem OR and was more of a rural kind of guy. His office, about 8x8, in a double-flanked row of rooms in which I was in the center, with a drafting table doing drawings, my location for a time, (before I was granted a place in a smaller office) The day is long. Bob always got there before I did. He had a picture up in his office, of he and his wife, taken at a professional photographer. Guys I worked with (in the design dept) thought it looked like he and his wife had taken their 'died and gone to heaven' picture, because the background was clouds and lots of Vaseline on the lens effect. So I was mentally prepared to think Bob was at least tacky. The design guys were fun, and kinda mean. But back to Bob. One morning, he and I got to talking some. He said he taught his son to hunt but his son (as a grownup) went hunting and didn't manage to bag a deer. Bob was truly a salesman, and given the way I reflect back on his story, I think he was a good one, actually. He said he had to talk to his son about how we 'see'. That you have to relax the eyes and let them....be. Then you will see the deer. Until then, if you are looking for the deer, you will never see it. Today, 15+ years later, I was looking out into the yard from the kitchen, and decided to stand there a minute. When I relaxed my eyes, I could see how the tiny bodies of more than twenty birds, grey and green and yellow, like the winter ground, were jumping and flying about. And I thought of Bob, to see the yard come alive with life but only after I let my eyes do their thing, relaxed. Thanks, Bob. --Jacquelyn Sauriol February 2023
